The reason this mod is relevant for long-lived survivalists is the smelting of tools. Most do not throw away tools after receiving a new one of a higher level or those items that will break soon.
Instead, you put them in a distant chest, hoping to combine them with other items like or use later.
Now just put the tools or armor and sword in the furnace to get the original resources. In Smelting+, smelting items gives only a part of the resources so as not to break the balance in survival.
By smelting one shovel or hoe, you get either an ingot or pieces depending on the remaining durability, so you can free up space and replenish your valuable resources.
