Just throw an item from the list above into the furnace to get coal. And the coal you get can be used just like regular charcoal. That is, smelting ore, cooking, and many other things where coal can be used.
Also, the new coal has its own parameters, and some of them are less energy efficient compared to regular coal in MCPE.
