Start your survival not in an empty field somewhere in the middle of a forest biome, but in a house already built on a large lake. You dont need to build or finish anything as the house is completely ready and you can safely move in and put your things away. In general, if the base seems too simple to you, you are free to do whatever you want, including adding rooms for crafting, processing resources, etc.
