This is the result of how the village will look which is in very cold places. The author of the map experimented and came up with a good plan for the village. Used ice blocks and snow in each building, which forms houses suitable for living.
You probably saw an igloo (small houses made of ice), inhabited by ancient tribes. So the Eskimos were able to unite in a small group of people and settle in this cold biome. You will see a small temple, igloos and a mine, which is the main occupation for the inhabitants besides fishing.
If you like the cold and snow everywhere then try to settle in one of the igloo or build your own. Local Eskimos are always happy to see you and can make a great company.
