If the varan is in a good mood and it likes you, then it will protect you for the rest of its life. Tamed lizards are two times stronger than the wild ones and can fight back anyone who lives in the upper world.
This type of animal is in the Animals addon, download it and get about 30 new animals as well as new items and drops.
