What capes inside:

The oldest capes were intended for those who created the game. Previously, Mojang employees had brown and yellow capes, then they were replaced with red and white ones and now the studio's modern design is in vogue. But it wasnt just the developers who recieved gifts.

For example, the guy who bought the millionth copy of the game got a purple cape with a star on it. There were also some very strange stories; such as one player receiving a cape with a snowman on it for a photo with a TV presenter, and another for the idea of adding pigmen to Minecraft (althought this practice was later discontinued to avoid being inundated with requests).

Holidays and important events:

Many capes were given out simply for being in the right place at the right time. Remember Minecon? Starting in 2011 a unique design was given for each visit to the exhibition. In Bedrock, the 2019 golden cape with a creeper was particulary memorable.

There are also social rewards for migrating you're account to Microsoft, for owning two versions of the game at once (the same vanilla cape with earth texture) or for participating in the community, such as translator or bug moderator capes.

New additions in recent years:

The developers are not slowing down and are constantly adding something new. Among the latest intresting additions are a cape in honor of the game's 15th anniversary, a bright Pride Cape and even exclusives like Eyeblossom. There are specific items for tournament fans, such as for the Minecraft Championship (MCC) and some of them could be picked up for free in the store.
