Whether it's a broken block or a defeated mob, you'll receive a completely random item or block. There's only one rule - each block or mob type always drops the same specific random item, and it's consistent across your world.
From the very first minutes of gameplay, you'll notice that familiar blocks like wood and stone no longer give you their usual materials. You'll need to experiment by breaking all kinds of blocks to discover what gives you the items you need.
Use the in-game guide to learn how to configure drops for each item type. Customize your experience to fit your world.
