You deprive yourself of a massive part of Minecraft PE when you ignore the mechanisms, and to get a little understanding of their principles of operation, you can build a real filtering conveyor thereby simplifying the sorting of items. The Filter Conveyor is a series of compact blocks that work in conjunction with a conveyor belt. With it, you can sort items in an automated manner.

At the moment, the addon adds about 30 filters working mainly with trees, as well as with leaves and mushrooms. This is really useful when you are dealing with many kinds of trees and you definitely want to see them in separate containers.
Like a redstone, a filter conveyor moves items along a conveyor belt with filters installed. During the movement, the filters pick up the corresponding blocks and move them into containers. This is just a general idea of sorting items shown in the video below.
You can build anything up to and including a production chain with a conveyor belt. At the same time, the filters do not pass the given blocks by and always take them regardless of the state.
1. Open the file (.mcpack) using Minecraft PE.
2. Activate the addon (world or game settings).
