If you want the rat you found to be your friend then feed it with meat. The well-fed rats automatically become friendly and follow you on the trail. And the rats are good enough mates during fights. A tamed rat is slightly stronger than a wild one, so create small squads of rats to deal with your enemies very quickly.

In appearance, the rats are not as small as you might think, they are more like small pigs. They can be found anywhere in any biome and they are always ready to become your tamed animals.
