JS Dot javascript conference was held in France a week ago. Minecraft fans will be interested in the fact that Tobias Ahlin (who is the MC developer) spoke there. There is no video recording of his speech yet, but you can find some photos on Twitter. And for the first time it was demonstrated how the Minecraft interface could be in the future.
Many people remember that developers collected ideas on how to remake the interface. The new interface, according to Tobias (he answered a few questions on Twitter), will look different on different platforms. In this case, developers are guided by the horizontal orientation of the screen. Apparently, it probably will have to scrolled down in some cases. This can be seen even in the presented picture.
Interface elements will support animation, and most likely, the buttons will behave funny when you click (tap) or hover. But this does not mean that the interface in Minecraft BE and Minecraft Java will be just that. The fact is that it was a conference for developers using javascript, and Tobias talked about how javascript would be used in Minecraft.
The Minecraft interface will use Java Script - apparently, the game will have a special library for creating interfaces (React or something like that). Thus, the Scripting API is not the only javascript application in the game.
Probably, the ability to “kill two birds with one stone” - add a scripting engine to the game and implement the mechanism familiar to designers to create an interface, prompted developers to abandon C #, whose support was already demonstrated in 2016.
The new interface will be added to the game along with the Scripting API, which they promised to demonstrate at the end of this year; and that means it’s not long to wait.
